Toplum Cafe & Restaurant

Toplum reimagines Mediterranean hospitality through a contemporary architectural lens, creating a serene retreat inspired by the relaxed lifestyle and timeless beauty of Southern Europe. Drawing influence from the coastal architecture of Italy and Greece, XO Atelier developed a design language centred around soft arches, gentle curves, and harmonious proportions, bringing a sense of fluidity and calm to the space.

The architectural rhythm of repeating arches defines the interior, shaping both the spatial experience and the identity of the restaurant. These sculptural forms create depth, softness, and visual continuity while elegantly integrating functional requirements. Complemented by a palette of natural materials, warm textures, and muted tones, the space evokes an atmosphere of understated luxury and comfort.

A key feature of the project is its bespoke lighting concept. Developed exclusively for Toplum in collaboration with SkLO and Preciosa Lighting, the custom-designed fixtures were inspired by the Mediterranean sunset and the graceful geometry of the interior architecture. Repeated throughout the space, these signature light elements reinforce the curved design language while casting a warm, inviting glow.

The result is a refined yet approachable dining destination where architecture, light, and atmosphere come together to create a memorable hospitality experience. Recognised internationally, Toplum received the award for Best Global Restaurant at the Hospitality Design Awards in 2021, celebrating its distinctive contribution to contemporary restaurant design.
